Even with all the Ableton stuff running on my MacBook Pro, I’m still going to need software running on another machine for sounds, etc. Now, both laptops have OSX Leopard and, thankfully, Native Instruments products seem to run fine under the new OS. I’m going to have to run an instance of KORE on the second laptop so that I can have Guitar Rig and Battery open and playing nice with each other. This setup also relies on the KORE hardware interface as the MIDI/audio IO and I don’t have any experience yet using that as such a central part of a live setup. NI makes great gear, so I assume it’ll be just fine. However I may have to put a Top Of The Pops style set on my ipod that we can just lip-sync to in case.
I haven’t decided whether or not I’ll use the pad triggers for sounds exclusively or to also trigger MIDI events along with the FCB controller. Frankly, it’s a lot of new stuff to figure out aside from simply learning the musical parts.
