Recording Again
Before I go back to Count’s studio in San Francisco later today, I thought I’d post a little update about what we’ve been doing. Last week, we were focused mainly on the show so all the gear was tied up with that. Now that’s behind us, we met up on Monday evening and began going through the songs and addressing all the little notes we had about what they need. Some things we’re able to do here, others will have to wait until we go to Dallas next week.
Specifically, we worked on the ending to ‘Seabright’, adding some high bass parts. Funny how I can play parts well the first few times and then, as my fingers tire, I just can’t play them at all. After that, we did some cool acoustic guitar scrapes and thwacks on ‘Eejit’ trying to get some nice organic textures on top of what will probably be the most ‘electronic’ track on the album. For ‘It Will All Make Sense In The Morning’, I recorded the mail melodic bass part as well as some background stuff on the end.
I can’t believe we’re at this stage already, but some of the songs, the three above in particular, are sounding close to finished. There’s definitely some detail and mix stuff to be done, for sure, but things are coming along nicely. It also feels like we’re working more efficiently than ever, taking very few steps backward. Perhaps that’s just because we haven’t been working on this album for four years already.
Tonight, we’ll continue to lay down guitar and bass tracks - both final and scratch. This will probably be the last big night of recording before Dallas next week. We’ll make sure to post up the video of Rebecca and I in the Sierras and, hopefully, some video from Count’s studio.

Would you mind doing a post on the kind of gear/software you’re using in recording? Aspiring musicians wanna know…
