Some Time Away.
Spent the last week away from the music for the most part but I’ve jumped back in now. I’m working more regularly with Count at this stage and he’s adding his own things independently which I will check out when I meet up with him later this week. It’s around now when I get to start to hear my songs with new things that I didn’t add myself. I always look forward to this process as hearing these things always triggers new ideas and it’s usually quite easy from this point to bring things to a conclusion.
So tonight I spent the majority of my time reminding myself of where I’m at and being real honest about what I’ve got left to do. As is my habit, I have left a lot of bridges - or ‘middle eights’ - left to be written and I’ll be doing just that over the next several days. I like to space these parts out from writing the rest of the track as it’s usually nice to have a bridge come from a slightly different place than the rest.
‘Sneaky Creatures’ has been a bit of a bastard as the bulk of the track rests on a repeating figure that I want to change when it gets to the bridge. However, because the ear gets so used to the main part, if I change it too much it just sounds melodramatic. A little Martinelli Woolsey Road Chardonnay and some 2003 Larkmead Salon Cabernet helped me sort it all out. Ahhh.
