We Wear Strings.
Today, we announced our plans to release the ‘We Wear Strings’ EP in January and this will be digitally, via iTunes, etc. Six tracks, the creation of which has been documented here fairly extensively. We’re all very excited to be releasing new music so soon and it’s still SO new that I myself have only had a day or so with the mixes of a couple of the tracks.
‘It Will All Make Sense In The Morning’, though not the oldest of the songs, is the song that set the tone for this group of recordings and it has remained as the lead track for this EP. ‘Hollywood Ending’ is a vastly different interpretation of a song that Rebecca and I originally recorded for our ‘Beneath Trembling Lanterns’ album. ‘Professional’ is, in fact, the oldest song of the bunch, having originated before many of the tracks on our ptevious album. When you hear it - and all the other new songs - I think you’ll see why we reserved it for this new release. ‘Breath Makes Smoke’ is a very different track for us, and one that came together quite quickly. Thanks to our work in Texas, it’s turned out quite a bit more powerful than I originally imagined. ‘Evensong’, as the title suggests, is a bit of a lament, though it was hard to predict that outcome when it was in its demo state. This song, in a strange way, sort of emotionally connects the new material with our previous work, I think. ‘Clipped’, like a few of the others, just sounds nothing like anything we’ve done before as Halou.
In addition to the EP, of course, we are still focused on finishing the complete album and, to that end, Rebecca and Count were in the studio finishing up vocals for a number of songs that still had a little work to be done. Rebecca has just called me and said that they completed 4 or 5 songs, including ‘Skimming’, which will actually be on the EP compilation, ‘Afield Recordings’, that will contain all of the non-album tracks from the ‘Wholeness & Separation’ period.
Hopefully, in the next little bit we’ll be able to get some previews up on myspace, etc. for you to check out. Also, we go into 2008 more determined as ever to finally tour the country as a whole, so we’ll finally get to meet everyone who has followed us these past 10 or so years.

EDIT 1/5/08: The EP has since been retitled “Sawtooth.” We’re fickle, what of it?
